Creative Director at Premium Creative

I’m Nick Hodson, Creative Director at Premium Creative and owner of Premium Signs.

My work covers branding, websites, signage, vehicle graphics and print. I work mainly with established small businesses, trades and service businesses that want to present themselves properly and make it easier for customers to understand what they do.

What I write about

I write about website design, branding, customer journeys, local business visibility, trust and the practical decisions involved in running a business online.

Some articles are based on direct experience. Others use published UK data, independent research or our own analysis.

The focus is usually practical. What helps a customer understand a business? What creates doubt? What is worth improving and what can be left alone?

Working across digital and physical

Premium Creative grew out of years of working directly with businesses through Premium Signs.

That means I see branding and marketing across more than just websites.

A business might have a strong reputation but a poor website. The website might look good but feel completely disconnected from the sign above the premises or the van parked outside. A company might spend money driving traffic to a site while making it difficult for someone to call or send an enquiry.

Those are the kinds of problems I tend to look for.

Research and evidence

Where an article uses statistics or research, I include the source and explain what was actually measured.

A study of 100 businesses only tells us about those 100 businesses. An automated website test is useful for finding technical issues, but it is not the same as a complete review. If the evidence has limits, those limits should be visible.

Design and judgement

Technology can now produce websites, content and branding very quickly.

That makes judgement more important, not less.

Good design still depends on deciding what deserves attention, what can be removed, how information should be ordered and how a business can avoid looking like everyone else.

AI and automation can help with parts of the process. They still need somebody who knows what good looks like and when something is not working.

About Premium Creative

Premium Creative works with businesses on branding, bespoke websites and practical digital projects.

The wider Premium business also works across signage, vehicle graphics and print, allowing the same identity to carry through both digital and physical parts of a business.
