Brand benchmark
How Established Does Your Business Look? Use the 100 Point Brand Presence Benchmark
A structured benchmark for scoring how consistently a business presents itself across the places customers actually see it.
Looking established is not the same as being large. A two person specialist business can feel extremely credible, while a much bigger company can look improvised if every customer touchpoint appears to have been created separately.
This benchmark gives that judgement a structure. It is not an industry standard and it does not measure the quality of the work itself. It measures how clearly and consistently the business presents the evidence customers can actually see.
There are ten areas worth ten points each. Give yourself 0 to 10 in each section. The maximum score is 100.
Identity: 10 points
Is there one clear logo and visual identity? Does it reproduce properly at different sizes? Are colour and typography used consistently? Would a customer recognise the company without needing to read the full name every time?
Website: 10 points
Does the website explain the business, services, service area and next step quickly? Does it look current? Does it feel consistent with the rest of the company rather than like a separate template?
Proof of work: 10 points
Can a customer see recent examples of the work you actually want more of? Are photographs clear and believable? Is there enough context to understand what was delivered?
Reviews and reputation: 10 points
Are genuine reviews easy to find and recent enough to show that the business is active?
Vehicles and workwear: 10 points
If customers see your team or vehicles in the real world, do those touchpoints reinforce the same identity and standard?
Signs and premises: 10 points
If the business has premises, site boards, reception signs or temporary signage, do they look intentional and current?
Quotes and paperwork: 10 points
Do quotations, invoices, reports and documents look like they belong to the same company? Is the hierarchy clear and are key details easy to find?
Contact experience: 10 points
Is the phone number easy to find? Does email use the company domain? Does the customer understand what happens after making contact?
Consistency: 10 points
Compare the website, van, sign, social profile, quotation and email signature side by side. Do they feel like one business?
Fit for the business you are becoming: 10 points
Does the current presentation support the work you want next? A company moving into larger contracts or more specialist work may need its identity to carry more confidence and structure than it did when the business started.
What the total means
Below 50: the business may be more credible than its presentation suggests. Focus first on the most visible inconsistencies rather than redesigning everything at once.
50 to 74: there is a recognisable business, but the standard probably rises and falls across different touchpoints. The opportunity is to connect what already works.
75 to 89: the business is presenting itself consistently. Improvements are likely to be about refinement, stronger proof and keeping the identity current.
90 to 100: the presentation is highly consistent. The useful question becomes whether it still supports the next stage of the business rather than whether it needs changing.
